So you saw the movie 300 and think you know what a Spartan is all about. Read this and find out the real training and life a Spartan warrior endured. Fantastic book. Highly recommended

While Cartledge is a widely acknowledged expert on Classical Greece, this book is a disappointment. It might serve as a quick gloss on Spartan history for someone who had no background but needed something in a hurry. For anyone who is even a serious lay student of clasical history is just has no substance. The vast majority of the work is restating or commentary on Herodotus and Thucydides (and some Xenophon) which I have already read.
