My all time favorite. I have read it over and over and probablt have 3 copies. I absolutely love this book. Quirky, strange and funny.
I went to the World SciFi and Fantasy convention in Ottowa, Canada just to meet her and sit in on her talk about writing.

I bought Biting the Sun which includes Drinking Sapphire Wine (sequel) in1997 to spare my old copies.
This book is full of whimsey and written in a style that captures you from the first sentence. A girl living in a futuristic Utopia that would be every young adult's dream, is growing up and wants something more.
The expected life of drugs and sex, where whatever you want is purchased by enthusiasic thanks that power the city, is annoying because she is rigidly expected to have this flighty life and she is somehow, frustratingly unhappy.
her hijinks and attempts to get happy are funny, yet tragic. The characters, who can change bodies to beautiful or grotesque at a whim or through suicide, are diverse and illustrate the problems in this heaven for the Jang (the pre grownup status).
tanith's style and imagination causes the ideas and events in this book to stick in your mind for years.

This and it's companion book, Drinking Sapphire Wine are my two favorite books of all time.
