I like how the book progressed through the point of view of the various citizens of Castle Rock. Castle Rock is a fictitious city in Maine created by Stephen King. What was really interesting was the progression of the story through Faustian deals with the shopkeeper. While the story isn't unique, it is interesting, and Mr. King makes it all the better with his realistic characters and great use of character development.

What happens when an antiques store opens up in a small town? Usually nothing too dramatic. But what happens when said antiques shop owner seems to have exactly what your heart desires and instead of accepting payment in cash would rather you pay your debt by playing pranks on your neighbors? A recipe for chaos, disaster and a really great story!

Very graphic, gruesome, and original. Characters are brilliantly written and woven together in such unexpected ways. An engrossing and quick read despite it's length. I REALLY liked it but I am a King fan, this is clearly NOT for everyone. I love the true message of this book- What would you give or do to have the ONE THING in the world that you desire more than anything else? Hmmmm.........

This is Stephen King at his finest. It is the last book set in Castle Rock, and it ends the town's storyline with a literal bang. Many characters are introduced throughout the book, but not so many that it becomes confusing. They sell their soul to a man named Leland Gaunt in exchange for what they most desire, sold in a shop called, "Needful Things." Throughout the book, Gaunt slowly pits the townspeople against each other through seemingly harmless pranks. Finally, it is too much, and Castle Rock erupts into a series of exploding buildings and violent street brawls. An extremely enjoyable and well-written piece by King, and one would expect nothing less.

I really enjoyed this book... especially how clever it was in that everyone needs something.

But, I felt let down by the weak ending. Sorry.
