I liked it a lot, sometimes it was a little too intense for me, but i wanted to see what happened to the characters.

How I missed the lush writing and opulent worlds of Anne Rice! I very much enjoyed the journey I took in "Cry To Heaven" and loved the vivid Italian landscapes that Rice has painted. (In general I enjoy the Venetian setting in stories.) I felt the characters and became deeply engrossed in the tale of Tonio Treschi. The novel is now one of my favorite works of Rice. A fine and marvelous read!

I am always pleasantly surprised when I read an Anne Rice novel that is not pertaining to vampires. I adore the flow she has with this story and could not put it down. Fell completely in love withTonio. Again Anne Rice has managed to remain on my fav list even though she wrote this book some time ago.

This book has actually made me look forward to reading Angel Time.

Cry to Heaven is set during the baroque period. Guido is a poor child with a angelic voice. At a young age he enters the world of the castrali to be groomed for greatness.
Tonio is the son of a Venetian nobleman with a talented but troubled mother. He is sheltered and taught the love of music by his mother.

Tonio's family has secrets that were never meant to see the light of day. When he is a teenager he finds out he has a brother that has been disinherited.

Opera is all the craze and the castrali are the royalty. Young boys with promising voices castrated so they can keep the purity of their soprano. They are treated as half-men and adored by women.

How Guido and Tonio's paths cross is heartbreaking. The struggle that Tonio has to go through to find his path in life is fascinating. It's beautifully written and wonderfully researched. It's hard to put down.

Just started, but was grabbed from the beginning. It's the story of young boys who are sent to sing for the churches in Italy back in the late 1800's. They were castrated to keep their voices high...it's the story of 2 boys and how the inability to basically develop into a man affected their lives. Very well written, researched, and interesting. I had no idea that this actually went on then. I'm only about 1/4 into the book, but have beeen unable to put it down!
