When I picked this book up at Target, I started reading it in the check out line and started crying! I have an old dog with incontinence...it reallly hit home. I'm only on Chapter 4, but will definately continue...despite what I may find...

I don't know how to start a discussion and am probably breaking rules, but here I go. I don't consider myself to be an "animal person" although I like my dog and cat. I'm not fan of car racing despite a long marriage to a man who attends every Indy 500 with his high school buddies. Still, I loved this book! Stein's descriptions of Enzo's behavior and thoughts were amazing to me. Enzo's thought processes when he retrieved his beloved stuffed dog from under the couch, with some shame, and then watched it going 'round and 'round in the washing machine were so believable, I was laughing and crying. Enzo's explaination that he could smell death long before human's could was compelling. I love this book!

I have just joined the group and was surprised to find that no one had begun a discussion of this book. It was an excellent book - it was thought provoking. It's the kind of book you want to highlight certain passages.
