This book was so well written. Grogan gives such exspressive detail that you feel like you are there with them. I found the book hard to put down, each day I could not wait to get back to the book to find out what Marley had in store for us the next time. This book made me smile, cry and laugh. I made my boyfriend read it, and he also loved it. We recommend this book to any dog lover especially if you own a yellow lab who is a little crazy.

The title "Marley & Me" provides the most significant insight in this book, that being the title is not "Me & Marley." The author sums it up well in his statement on page 279 `A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours.' I will take the liberty to change his statement a bit; that being, "A person can learn a lot from pets even loopy ones like mine". I have 22 cats: I imagine some could be seen as the world's worst cats. But, then again what is better: no love, conditional love or unconditional love: I'll take the latter of the three. The author is so very forthright in this book and so very open with emotions and events (the good, the bad and the ugly) about how life with a dog really affects all of life. I am sorry I did not meet Marley, I am sure I would have enjoyed a sloppy lick: and geniuses generally do fail obedience school. If it was up to me I believe every person that is considering pet ownership should read this book as it a story that sincerely, without exception, observes the expectations of both the human and the pet. And then further develops that expectations are generally wrong and it takes work to develop a real relationship. Yup, that's right Marley like all pets take work: and WORK is a 4 letter word, but oh the rewards. A person has not loved until they have known the love of a pet nor have you grieved until you know the sadness of saying goodbye as they cross the golden bridge. And yes, the book will make you laugh and make you cry: but unlike Old Yeller, there was more to "Marley & Me" than the love and lose of a pet. I think John Grogan, the author, presents a wonderful story with grace and the reader is granted the joy of reading an honest and engaging family saga. Ripley, number three cat, and quite a challenging cat is purring on the computer desktop; meaning okay, about time of clean-up and dinner. And what lovely sounds that purr is, but a sound that has a time limit of 5 minutes until she takes a more direct approach; that being, pulling the DSL line

this book was excellent. i loved it. it was exactly my dog who i recently got for christmas. she is a lovable but silly dog in all that she does just like marley. i laughed, and cried and laughed some more. i am an avid dog lover and this book would make anyone love dogs even more. just goes to show that dogs are wonderful because no matter what you do to or with them they love you unconditionally. Man's best friend obviously fit in this book. i recommend to any animal lover who has ever accepted their pet as family.
