On the flyleaf to When You Are Engulfed in Flames, essayist David Sedaris is described as “master of nothing.” Nothing, that is, except entertaining me in book after book. While the 22 pieces in When You Are Engulfed in Flames may not be as gasp-inducing, laugh-out-loud funny as...

This is absolutely a lousy book unless you like pornography and humor about sex. Some of the stories are good but much is not worth the time. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

An all time favorite. When I listened to this on audio, I had to pull over several times. I was laughing so hard I couldn't see to drive!

I wish I could write the way David Sedaris does.

So far it's great! Like it could be anything other than great. I went to see him speak. He's amazing in person. Seeing him was a highlight.

Sedaris has yet to disappoint me. This collection, unlike his others, seem to stray from his usual topics, mainly his family, to a new era in his life, namely his life in Paris, his traveling, and Hugh. There's a depth to these essays that moves beyond the absurd to being incredibly touching; however, the humor is still there to give it its complete Sedaris touch!

Hilarious, as always. A dangerous book to read on a plane--I kept laughing out loud.

Funniest book I have ever read. Do not read while drinking coffee...you will spew it all over yourself

a solid collection, especially after the letdown of "dress your family in corduroy and denim", not that anything by sedaris is really a letdown.
he excels best at walking the line between funny, sad, and terribly awkward, most exceptionally in "answers to saturday's puzzle".
i listened to this on audio, and his readings really add a personal level of hilarity and believability to his essays.
