Shenon does an exceptional job of laying out the politics and personalities behind the 9/11 Commission. The author provides a handful of answers concerning issues that were carefully avoided in the actual published report. However, Shenon also raises a few questions. Specifically, he focuses quite a bit on unanalyzed NSA intercepts that showed the relationship between al-Qaeda/Osama bin Laden and Iran. He showed that the 9/11 Commission ran out of time to delve more into the NSA information, but additionally was reticent to unearth any ammunition to make it easier for the Bush administration to begin its third Middle East war. Shenon had shown how the commission went to great lengths to avoid investigating Saudi Arabia's involvement in 9/11 even though the majority of the 9/11 hijackers (and Osama biin Laden) were Saudi. So by the end of this book I was wondering what kind of intecepts and information the NSA had concerning al-Qaeda/Osama bin Laden and Saudi Arabia, and whether the information would ever see the light of day. Not likely, is my opinion. An engrossing book that is fairly well documented. Highly recommended.”

Despite all of the problems he reports on, he still seems basically to believe the findings of the 9/11 Commission Report. But I guess that's the sort of thing you can expect from a mainstream media journalist.”
