Interview With the Vampire

by Anne Rice

This is the book that started it all. We are in a small room with the vampire, face to face, as he speaks--as he pours out the hypnotic, shocking, moving, and erotically charged confessions of his first two hundred years as one of the living dead. (read review)

Beautiful narrative, stunning descriptions, fascinating characters. An amazing work of fiction, both within and out of the vampire genre. Captures the moral, philosophical and emotional struggles of a man who must deal with the evil within those around him, those he loves most and within himself while trying to rationalize and cope with an existence of extraordinary length, inordinate sorrow and ultimate futility. Anne Rice at her best.

Do fans of Anne Rice like other vampire series? Like Buffy or christine feehan etc. I have to confess other vampire tales (apart from the original, Dracula) have zero appeal for me. I think what's great about Anne Rice is the historical aspect of her fiction. That's what I read it for.

yeah, I thought she could really bring Jesus to life (pardon my pun) the way she did with her vampires. I was disappointed. I liked Louis but Lestat became such a brat he got on my nerves.
I've heard that vampire books are popular with the gay crowd, which isn't surprising considering the amount of sex in them..but for me, I think that's what I liked least about the series. I mean alright the first time, but then it got a bit tedious.
