The story is about Louise, a vampire in our time reminiscing back to the days before and after he was turned into a vampire by the seductive Lestat. Things go great for a few lifetimes, but Louise begins getting tired of life with Lestat, who's lust for blood knows no limit. But Lestat isn't willing to let him go, and does anything he can to keep Louise by his side, including turning a child into a fellow bloodsucker.
Dark, deeply seductive, moving and at times heartbreaking. This isn't a book to miss.”
“ Personally I enjoyed this book, I always enjoy all vampire books but this one in particular. The reason I liked this one more than the other ones is because they seem believable. They incorporate lots of specific historical details throughout the entire text. I have also seen the movie with Tom Cruise and Brad Pit which in my opinion, stayed true to the book. The book also stays true to the traditional ideas about vampires unlike modern theories. The book also seems more believable since the reader gets a sense of current events and past events.
The book opens in San Francisco, where a vampire named Louis tells his 200-year-long life story to an interviewer. Louis’ story starts off in 1791. He was a young plantation owner somewhere south of New Orleans, Louisiana. Flustered with the suicidal death of his younger brother he seeks out death everywhere. Louis is approached by a vampire named Lestat, who desires Louis’ company. Lestat turns Louis into a vampire (although Louis begged to just be killed) Lestat spends some time feeding off the local plantation slaves while Louis, finds it ignoble to murder humans for survival, feeds off animals. The book continues to explain how the two’s relationship matures when they adopt a little girl together. Louis, being new to the idea of Vampirism, turns away from Lestat and his daughter.
I would recommend this book to someone who likes novels, specifically romantic novels. The book isn’t categorized as a romantic novel but personally I find it to be one. The book it a bit long at times and seems to be dry so I would strongly recommend a patient reader, although the dry parts are totally worth it! I believe that one has to be a “traditionalist” with the vampire believes to truly appreciate this book though.
