“The Reader’s Digest Illustrated Guide to Gardening is a wonderful resource for home gardeners. It is a big book (672 pages in a large format), remarkably complete (trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables, lawns, greenhouses …), authoritative (no fewer than eight PhDs are listed on its editorial board) and beautifully illustrated with diagrams, charts and drawings on almost every page.
I especially like the charts for trees and shrubs. For example, using the chart on pp 178 and 179, I can tell at a glance the characteristics and requirements of sumac as well as the fact that the only varieties of sumac which will grow in North Dakota are Rhus glabra laciniata and Rhus typhina laciniata. The early editions of this book are available from any number of online used book stores at very reasonable prices. A good value.”
“There is so much inner peace and joy when you take time out to smell the flowers...become one with the earth and watch God's miracles come to life. Did you know flowers are edible? Sort of makes sense when you think about it...just watch the chemicals...teehee. Great for teas: pansies, lilies, impatiens pasted with sugar and a beautiful complement as well...smile.”Swaggie wrote this review Sunday, October 14, 2007.
