Wide Awake is one of the series of Twilight written by a fan. It talks about how this girl Bella can't sleep. Every time she sleeps she has horrendous nightmares about her past. In the past she was mistreated by her step-father, so was her mom. Her step-dad killed her mom & still mistreat Bella, he would leave her in the closet for weeks sometimes, or he would hide there meanwhile she was going to bed & then come out just to hit her. So every time Bella closes her eyes as to go to sleep she starts dreaming about her past & feels pain. She keeps herself entertained no to fall asleep, doing such things as cooking or reading books. Cooking is her passion.
After her mom died, she went to live with her aunt Esme, Phil(step-dad) went to jail. Bella can't touch any guys at all. Which makes her life a little harder.
Edward is a guy who has the same problem, he can't sleep at all. He has nightmares also about his past. He dreams about his dad burning at his house & him not being able to help. Sometimes he dreams about how he mom left him & he had to live in different shelters & been mistreated. He had a flu & a doctor came to check him. In the end the Dr. Carlisle adopted him. The Cullens!.
Edward sketches every night so that he don't fall asleep so he don't feel the pain of dreaming all this. Dreams that feel real.
It was the first day of high school. There was a party after school at the Cullen's house, Bella assited with her cousin Alice. There was a guy stalking Bella & she felt irritated. She ran upstairs & locked herself in a room. Edward's room. He cursed her out & stuff but led her stay so that she wouln't have to deal with this other guy. That's how Bella & Edward met.
Somehow they noticed neither of them were able to fall asleep. They became friends & kept each other awake so that they didn't have to deal with the kind of dreams they had. Time passed by & the night at thanks giving Edward couldn't help it no more & fell asleep. He started crying & sweating. Bella started panicking because she wanted to wake him up, but then again she couldn't have any contact with guys otherwise she would remember of how Phil would smack her & begin to panick. But she couldn't let Edward dream, so she touched him. She realized she could touch him & that made her happy, he was the only guy that she can apparently touch.
Time passed by again & one night neither of them could handle their lack of sleep & both fell asleep. They realized that sleeping with each other kept them away from their dreams, so they started this routine.
A couple of months later they started dating & things were going well, until Edward decided to go to Chicago looking for his mother & find out why she left him. He promised Bella to come back before school ended. He didn't. He took for about 8 months with his mother, trying to help her out. His mother had this alcoholism problem. But his help it's pretty helpless. He goes back to Forks-Washington & Bella was acting so indifferent with him. She approched him the fact that he never called her, just sent her one letter in 8 months. Edward feels guilty & tries explaining what had gone on back in Chicago, but Bella didn't want to listen. Esme talks to Bella about it & then she realizes that she had been unfair to Edward. They make up & go back to their routine.
Meanwhile Edward was away, Bella was attending the phsyco so she would help her out with all of her problems.
Edward & Bella plan their future & talk about college, since their seniors in high school -- They begin college & had live in different dorms. Bella can't really sleep & is scared of the closet by her bed. She runs out to Edward's room & cries her scaredom out. Edwards goes to her room not minding sleeping with her. After all their used to it. They really don't care about how long they have to keep this up. It is all meant to be this way anyways [;”
“Read before and after surgery...kind of to motivate myself to wake up. Love how authentic and transparent McManus is in this book. It's nothing we don't know, but another reminder to take stock of what we are. Do you like who you see in the mirror when you wake up in the morning? Do you like who you are becoming? The more "stuff" I lose in this world, the more insight I gain about what's really important. I love how he reminds us to focus.”

Just recently, when asked for my favourite book, it was one of Erwin's I could pull from a list of candidates ('The Barbarian Way'. Probably the fact that I'd read it once a year over the four years had something to do with it.
This book is a further development of what Erwin has to share about the creativity of human beings. Whilst not as tightly written as other books by him, there are many good ideas and thoughts to explore as a fellow traveller of one who wants to dream wide awake.
As always with his writing, there is a sense of a quest beneath the surface, which builds up the meaning of what we shall find when we awaken the hero, as: artist, explorer, alchemist, believer, seer, activist, hedonist, romantic, human. There may be some words amongst these that don't seem to belong for a follower of Christ, but read on and you won't be disappointed.”
“Wide Awake is not one of McManus's best books. I found it a bit of a self-help book. I really think that his premise is a good one though that we far too easily give up on our dreams in hopes of living a better Christian life. Whereas the Bible is clear that to follow Christ is to dream big and to live Wide Awake. I was inspired by the book as I am with all of McManus's books but I left the book wanting something different from this very talented author.
One other very annoying trait of the book was all the misspellings and bad grammar. I would put the occurrences at about 40 for the number of these errors. This is far too many for this caliber of book and author.”
“Wide Awake is not a book to simply be skimmed and quickly thrown on the bookshelf. It’s a book to be savored, its concepts thoughtfully considered.
