I was disappointed in the movie, but loved the book. It has so many themes: women scientists and science vs. religion. It just gives you so much to think about. It has been one of my favorite books for many, many years.

This is a fantastic story from Sagan, the surprise ending is really a profound idea that made me think of mathematics differently ever since the book came out. It is really a shame that the movie dropped the ending :-(

The book far exceeds in its ability to captivate the reader. The movie, however, shows scenes that could not be visualised otherwise. The change of space traveller to just one 'good actor' is understandable; movies attract audience only if they are simpler and more glamourous. But the book is richer in its message.
