I saw the movie and when I knew I needed to read a non-fiction book I decided that I would read it. I loved the way it was written and the feeling behind the words, even when the book didn’t come right out and say what you were supposed to be feeling you knew the emotion and sadness and also HAPPYNESS that was coming through the writing. I enjoyed the plot and how much Chris cares about his son even though he is facing so many trials and struggles. It is such an example to all of us that we can find happiness even in the most desperate times.”

Although I commend the man for pulling himself out of the ghetto and raising 2 children pretty much singlehandedly, I am not ready to nominate him for sainthood. I understand he had a terrible childhood and struggled until he became a successful investment broker. However, I think I would have been more impressed if he had stayed away from drugs, alcohol, and crime, if he had risen above all of that. I haven't seen the movie, but I understand all the sordid details were left out.”

This book covered much more of Chris Gardner's life than the movie by the same title. In fact, the movie comes from only about 30 pages of this book. The first part of the book got deeply into character, whereas the second part of the book definitely focused more on his climb to the top.”

It's about a guy named Chris Gardner who struggled during a period of time. His occupation was to sell these boxes, where doctors can use but business was really bad, so his wife left him. He lost his home and became homeless. He had to live in the a shelter. DUring this process, he was training to be a stock broker. AT the end, he got the job and this is when he realized that all the hardships he had to go through will be over. ”

His father left when he was little and he planed to never leave his childern ever. He got out of the Navy @ the age of 20. He went to pursue a career in medicine that didn't work out. At the end he works for Wall street. He goes from being poor and homless to being rich. He love his son so much that he took him through his troubles of living on the street. They would stay in HO-tels when he had some money and even some of the hos would give his son money so they could eat. Other times they slept in homless shelters and a subways bathroom. A few times they even slept under his desk @ work. The movie is good but if u want the truth read the book b/c a lot of stuff was changed around.”
