“The Ember series completes in this, the fourth and final book. Doon and Lina are back and heading off on their own on another adventure. This book returns to the spirit of the first one: two clever children trying to save their people against the odds. After a roamer shows up with a book "for the people of Ember," Doon becomes convinced that there is something in their old city that could save Sparks, suffering from major food shortages. He convinces Lina to go with him. When they finally find a way into Ember, they find that a grubby family has moved into the city. These squatters catch Doon and chain him up, so that he cannot escape and tell people about the marvelous treasure trove down here. Lina, meanwhile, discovers, thanks to the Roamer from the beginning, where the treasure, the 'diamond' came from. The discoveries Lina and Doon made, plus a run into the old city of Ember, abandoned by the squatters when the generator finally broke with help, keep the Emberites alive through the winter. The last section suggests that civilization will eventually be remade and that aliens are watching the progress humans make down below. That ending seems a bit odd to me, and threw off my enjoyment of the book just at the last.”

If you like Doon and Lina, then you'll love this book! The Troggs are really weird and I'd like to know what Scawgo's real name was, but really I have no complaints. I think that Jeanne DuPrau couldn't have written it better. - Lib

Lina and Doom had to go back to the forgotten dark homes of the people of Ember but Doom finds a few people that already came by and found refuge in the city of "DARKHOLD"”
