It is the story of winter; an unusual girl with an unusual name, who spends her lonely youth in the huge stately home of her great grandfather where people’s hearts were colder than the halls she walked through.
Winter longs to return to India, the land of her birth where the sun always shone, birds flew overhead and laughter flowed freely and where she could once again be happy and care free. Her reprieve comes in the form of a marriage proposal from a man serving in India. Suddenly marriage was the key to the land of happiness. She prepares to embark on the long journey against the advice of Captain Alex Randal.
Her obstinacy in holding on to her childhood dreams hinder her from recognizing true love until it is too late.
From then on nothing is the same anymore, even Winter’s beloved India changes it’s color: from the brilliant multicolor of the rainbow to red; the color of blood, for the year is 1857, the year of India’s War of Independence against British rule.
In the midst of these hostilities Winter and Captain Alex Randal struggle to keep themselves alive while Winter also struggles to win the affections of the man she loves with the same intensity with which she had once yearned for her lost homeland.
