The Drunkard’s Walk is a book about randomness, a topic that most people, unless they happen to be mathematicians or have a strange fascination with statistics, probably don’t think too much about. As a species, in fact, we generally prefer not to dwell on randomness, but rather to assume that we...

A little too technical for my liking, although the last 2-3 chapters were more anecdotal and interesting.

Thought provoking. Started a slew of math and physics readings for me.

Wonderful perspective on how the randomness of events can quickly change or lives.

Awesome book! I've always been fascinated with math and numbers, despite the fact that my math skills are less than amazing. One of the reasons I get frustrated with formal math courses is that the material is often taught in a highly theoretical framework and students are often left wondering "why does this matter". Mlodinow successfully takes many important concepts and translates them into realistic scenarios, telling the reader exactly why certain mathematical phenomenon are important.

Confusing and rambling at times, The Drunkard's Walk is nonetheless a thoroughly enjoyable read. I got it as a gift and it really changed the way I think about randomness.

This book was really interesting. I do not have a strong grasp of mathematics so it was sometimes a challenge to follow. But it was worth the struggle. Definitely a good read for the layman. Although, it may be too simplistic for those with a background in the subject.

CalTech physicist Leonard Mlodinow, in his book "The Drunkard's Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives", offers a fascinating lesson on the development of our understanding of probability and randomness, and how randomness is widely misunderstood and underestimated even today. Not only does Mlodinow succeed in making mathematical theory and history quite fascinating, but he demonstrates the applicability of randomness in our lives in ways that will make you ponder. Along with The Black Swan, this is all you need to know about how complex social/physical systems work

An excellent writer who makes probability and statistics approachable. I find it reassuring that most of life is chance and when things go wrong there's really no one out to get you.
