I related to the main character, because I feel like it's easier sometimes to just be stupid and make money in finances and just ignore the fact that life is much more than a fancy car and a huge apartment. On the other hand, it's not easy at all being stupid and caring about all of those things, and ignoring everything else that is right in front of you

When I read that this book was an international cult phenomenon I thought it might be worth a few hours of my time. Admittingly, I am/was (I've moved on now) a bit dissapointed. Yes, the story is witty and humorous. Yes, the story tries to make a point about intelligent, unique indivduals living in a society that values luck and mediocrity. And yes, the story has interesting characters and is fairly quick-paced. But, the whole time I felt like the book was moving toward this epic conclusion and a really fabulous explanation of--something--but a ghost and a bizzare chicken ritual and he's--better? Did I miss something? So, what? He spends the rest of his time as a ghost? (shaking my head) I guess I just don't see the brilliance behind the story.

I enjoyed this book. The poor guy that is the lead character feels that intelligence is a curse and begins a quest to be like everyone else. You will feel bad for him at how quickly his attempt to be an alcoholic fails. And you will laugh at the absurdity of the suicide class. And then he really gets serious about his quest for stupidity and the cheeky passages will make you cackle aloud.

'of course there will be people who've read freud and plato, who can juggle with quarks and tell the difference between a peregrine falcon and a kestrel, and who'll still be idiots', but one always has time for half a glass of beer, a lobotomy, a bed of german tourists to dive upon, slip knot lessons or a career as a venture capitalist.

It has a clever premise and an entertaining story to tell, but the ending was extremely unsatisfying and seemed to come out of left field.

Superb humor. Yet the ending in Dickens and Coelho style ruined the last twenty pages of this book.

I heard a lot of good things about the book, but after I read it, I was very dissapointed by it. Not what I expected.

a bit pretentious, but overall it was funny and insightful. i will say it could have been better. the premise has a lot of potential, but the writer didn't fully unlock it.
