Enoyed this book, but thought the last part set in the White House was the weakest section.

I read this book without having read the covers. As I started to read, there were so many concidences that it lead me to believe that it was based on a real first lady (who I won't put in my review so as not to blow the surprise as you read it). About halfway through I read the Q&A with the author at the end of the book, and was really surprised to find out that I was right, and I'm Canadian!. I thought the book was a little bit long, but I really enjoyed the story. As an aside, I lent the book to my mother-in-law who has dual citizenship and once she found out it was loosely based on this first lady, she refused to read anymore. I guess being a good democrate was more important than a good story.

Ooops. I meant to say that it doesn't matter if you are a Democrat (which I am) or a Republican). LOL

I love I don't think it matters whether you are republican or democrat on making the decision to read this book or not. This book is a wonderful read. It is based on Laura's life, however, it states it is fiction. I thought the author was very kind in her portrayal of Alice based on Laura Bush. It gives a lot of insight into a public figure's marriage and why women of her generation made the choices they made. I am not of the republican political persuasion and I enjoyed the book tremendously.

This book looked interesting and I am looking for more people who have read it? Like or dislikes? As a pretty staunch republican I am always leary of "political" books.
