No-one so far has picked up on a non-British concept which she used to underpin one of the parent/child relationships. In most countries she would be correct that the confiscation of a driving licence would prevent the youngster driving as it is required that the licence is carried; however in the UK this is not the case. Having passed the test and been awarded the licence you are entitled to drive but need not carry the licence with you. If you should get stopped by the police you have 5 days to present your documents. Lew's so-called confiscation of Cade's licence would be illegal. This detail in a 'British' based novel really irritated me.

However I was glad to see Lynley had not been retired. I will re-read this some time as I only had 1 week to read the library copy.

I'm also recovering from the death of Lady Helen. I always enjoy the books, even though there's more description than necessary. I like England and enjoy the description. I'm annoyed with the TV shows though. Lynley isn't blonde and Havers is way too pretty and neat.

I'm still struggling through this, and may just give up. It's confusing and lacks the intensity of many of the Lynley novels. Maybe it mirrors Lynley's own sense of confusion and despair--but it doesn't make for a good read. I'm glad I didn't buy it.

This is not one of her best--a disappointment after the last two.

I look forward to each George book and have always loved her writing. I felt Careless in Red was not up to par. I got bogged down in the local descriptions. It would have been better if we could have seen the country through Thomas's eyes. She seemed to get his pain right. I'll be in line for the next book. Thank you
