I had read two Kafka references by other writers including Edmund White and decided it was time to read something. Metamorphosis was so odd.

I greatly enjoyed reading these short stories. They were a very refreshing change from the other books that have been read for Global Literature II, as these stories have been very easy to understand, and were in many ways just as deep as the more confusing books that we have read, such as Tale Of Two Cities. Learning about Franz Kafka's life really increased my comprehension of the stories. For example, in nearly every story the main character has a conflict with his father. In Kafka's life, he always had trouble with his father. His father often informed the younger Kafka that he thought he was a failure. Mt favorite story of all of the short stories was The Metamorphosis. It is the longest of all of the stories in the book, and there was therefore more room for it to expand and focus on details then there were in the other stories. I enjoyed the ending of the book, which has been often criticized by many readers of The Metamorphosis. Overall, I enjoyed every one of these stories, and would love to read more of Kafka.

The metamorphosis was the first story I read that was written by Franz Kafka. Even though it's hard to understand the hidden meaning inside the book, I liked it just the same.

An excellent introduction to Kafka thru a few of his most famous stories. Disturbing and brilliant.

    Horrifying, Kafkaesque.
