“Who said romances couldn't be adventure?”

I love the story, I love the characters and I love the way they fall in love! Mary and Dominique are two very different people. He's filled with ennui, a noble man who has seen it all and done it all. Mary is the protective, pragmatic elder sister. She attempts to save her sister from destroying her life by fooling Dominique into eloping with her, a fact he doesn't find out about until it's too late.
I loved getting to see Justin and Sophie again.
It's a romantic novel that's safe for the younger readers and absolutely re-readable. ”
“the must have sequel to These Old Shades, might even be slightly better, heresy I know!”

This is the sequel to "These Old Shades" and it is helpful to read that book first. The following book is : "An Infamous Army" about the Battle of Waterloo, in which the third generation of the family introduced in "These Old Shades" play a part. This is also NOT a Regency novel, it is set about a generation earlier. "An Infamous Army" is set in the Regency era but is not a typical Regency romance either. This is in my opinion not one of Heyer's best books in my opinion, but still worth a read. The other book whose characters show up again in "An Infamous Army" are from her Regency Romance "Regency Buck". 'Devils' Cub" is about a generation ahead of the Regency period, so it can't really be called a Regency book. NOTE: a "rake" was the term for a wild and usually promiscuous man, who drank a lot, gambled, often had mistresses, and lived a way of life more acceptable in France in the 1700's.”

I picked up this one first from the library, but then got These Old Shades from someone and happened to read it first. Heyer's books are Regency and Georgian romances, and are always clean. There is always a sense of humor in them too. Fun fun.”
