I picked this one up because I loved All the Pretty Horses so much. And this one had me going for a while… a man stumbles across a dope-deal gone wrong, takes the cash, and runs… so a deadly killer tracks after him in order to get the money back to it’s rightful owner. But I became real angry when about ¾ of the way through the book, the “final showdown” between the runner and killer was left out and the next part is the sheriff identifying the body of the runner in the morgue! Where’s the action? Where’s the resolution? Then the end of the book just continued with the sheriff’s ruminations about how this country has just gone to shit… just like this book.

Such a spare, dark beauty to Mr. McCarthy's writing.

Just not my cup of tea. I think I don't have enough testosterone to appreciate this book.

I don't want to see the movie - it would ruin the amazing pictures McCarthy put in my head. I love this book.

very good. The trilogy is a favorite of mine. The style of writing is unique to mccarthy - reminiscent to me of Hemingway

Probably the single most violent, bleak, depressing, sucks-all-hope-and-joy-from-the-world story I have ever read. This is the king of post-modern westerns, it really is an amazing book, often called the best American book of the last 25 years - but damn if isn't a rough ride.

Great novel. Helped explain the movie by adding more details.

Great stuff, but a rare instance where the movie is better. Coen bros are just incredible.

Good plot, the movie parallels the novel quite well, so I was able to picture things in my head very easily. I did not like the last 30 pages, the part where Bell was just reflecting to himself.
