“The book didn't live up to the hype. It is very well written though.”

Read it in one go and be shocked by how the world could look like after an apocalyptic event. Look at everything that surrounds you and imagine that it is not there anymore...”

This is an easier read than some of his earlier works in terms of prose and pacing, but no less a gripping and harrowing tale of bleak, dogged survival. One of those few books I read dreading the moment I would run out of pages to turn.”

I could not put it down until I had read every word. One of the most powerful and disturbing novels ever written. My thanks to Cormac McCarthy for having the vision and courage to write it. ”

The writing is sheer poetry. The characters could be anyone. Wanted to read it in one sitting because the writing was so good, it fed me. But I NEEDED to put it down many times because it was so dark, and stifling, and I had to catch a breath of hope before diving into it once more. Thought-provoking, inspiring, chilling. It's a story of love and hope, despite everything. Not for the faint of heart.”

Then I came back to bed and woke him up anyway so he would hold me.
Academic reation: McCarthy's ability to create an impossible world and perceive the ravages on the bodies, minds, and spirits of these two characters and the remaining world's inhabitants is astounding. His writing is fluid and choppy all at once. The episodic nature of the book is exactly how existence would feel. Drifting in and out of awareness and, both figuratively and literally, darkness. To comprehend through his book "the end" and what happens after is both nauseating and thrilling for me as a reader.
I will never get this book out of my subconcious filters from this point forward. It is a part of me.”
