“i tend to think the setting (future, post-apocalypse) has very little to do with McCarthy's artistic intent. to me, it's a simple story about a father-son relationship. poignant, beautiful, sad.loved it. i hope the movie holds up. (i'm skeptical - seems like they're taking the adventure side of it)”
“I'm really stunned by the imagery this book conveys. It's stark and minimalistic and deftly constructed. Everything is stripped down except the son and his father and their relationship. I read this book last summer and still think about it. Can't imagine the movie being capable, but probably will see it anyway.”
“p.s. after having read some of these discussion posts, i must humbly assert that most readers these days are idiots. clearly. irrefutably. it's one thing to dislike something because the style doesn't appeal to your specific aesthetic sensibilities- but at the same time, can open your mind enough to respect style and talent for its own sake. it's quite another thing to pretend you know what you're talking about and trash something you so obviously don't understand just because you're not willing to even try to get it. you reveal your ignorance by the manner of your critique. which is sad in and of itself, because you limit the development of your own capacity to perceive- and hence, you're going to continue to miss out on whole other sides to that which is available to be experienced. ”
“I liked the book. And when i seen the commercial for the movie i was like..i've seen this before and before it told us what the name of the movie was i said it outloud. It was funny because if a book gives you that much detail that you could tell the movie was that by just seeing it it must be good. And the part with the house. In the commecial its exaclt how i pictured it.”
“I thought this book was beautifully sad. It made me cry more than once. Its a story of struggle and a fathers struggle to take care of his little boy in a time of despiration.”
“i m the best player in the world”
“This has got to be the worst book I ever read ... Why on Earth do so many books about the future have to be so desolate .. If you are even slightly 'under the weather' do not touch this book.”
“From the "Book Detail page" description:"Ridiculously Simplified Synopsis- A Father, his son, Love, Life, Death, Beauty and Eternal Mystery amidst the remains of apocalypse."Ok.... So where is the "Eternal Mystery"? I missed that page.”
“I really liked this book, but somehow I couldn't quite get into it (and therefore get as much out of it) as I think I could haveI think part of this was that I couldn't get over the fact that the situation seemed so unrealistic -- there's NOTHING growing, and it's been years since whatever destroyed the environment (the boy has to be at LEAST 5 years old). I don't even think nuclear bombs have that kind of destructive power! The other thing that I think may have taken me out of the book's mood was that I read it while riding in the car with my dad on the way to a camping trip, and I couldn't allow the dark mood of the book to really affect me because I was in such a beautiful and happy place myself.”
“Was I the only one that was kind of turned off by how the father robbed the thief? It just seemed so out of character for him in my opinion. It's the only reason I would give this book a 9.5 out of 10.”
