It stayed with me, besides the incredible story and Maureen's writing (which is always good) it had an aura that I completely loved, the whole living-in-a-hotel, just the whole atmosphere. Absolutely adored Spencer, Scarlett's brother....” see full review » see other reviews » |
Didn’t Like It“I liked this book because of the name and cover. But, I did not like the story on the pages. It was just BORING. I would only recommend this book to people who like drama.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“Interesting premise -- family in a somewhat faded old-glory hotel in Manhattan. But some of the character motivations were unclear and Maureen was overly bratty, even for her situation.”

I understand now why people think she's so cool. I love Johnson's writing style, and I loved this book.
Scarlett is a teenage girl living in her family's hotel in New York City. The family is hurting for money, so they are running the hotel without employees, which forces all of the kids to give up their social lives and pitch in at home. Scarlett's job, among other things, is to take care of the hotel's sole guest, Mrs. Amberson, who is an eccentric former actress. Mrs. Amberson is just the kind of larger than life character who probably couldn't exist in real life, but who you'd like to see exist. She reminds me of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler and the uncles in The Outcasts of 19 Schuyler Place in her eccentricities (Konigsburg's my favorite, I can't help but make comparisons) as well as Dumbledore, in her ability to make everything okay in the most mysterious and unexpected ways imaginable.
I also loved the family dynamics in this book. Scarlett's friendship with her brother Spencer is very touching and I liked the issues they needed to resolve. I also really loved the details about youngest sister Marlene's cancer and how her disease continues to affect the family long after going into remission. I felt like I really got to know the ins and outs of Scarlett's life, and I can't wait to see what happens in the soon-to-be-published sequel!”
“I LOVE IT!! spencer is my darling and scarlett is a one of a kind relatable girl. she is the sister of my heart.”

On your special birthday, you get the key to one of the rooms in the hotel to take care of (the whole room...not just the key). On Scarlett's brithday, she gets her key and the whole family falls apart by the end of breakfast. She gets her first guest and has to juggle being personal assistant to her guest, helping her brother Spencer (an out of work actor), taking her younger sister to her cancer survivor's group stuff, and an older sister who isn't happy with her boyfriend, and her parents with the hotel falling apart. Hillarity ensues as she tries to find her niche, a boyfriend, and a way to keep her sanity!”

When she turned 15 she was in charge on running the Empire Suite. She also has to take care of a guest named Mrs. Amberson. Scarlett meets an actor named Eric, who she get a crush on. Scarlett has to try to balance everything, even though it wont be easy. Read the book to find out how things end up.
Overall i recommend this book. It is very relatable, considering the fact that the main character has a lot in common with me. It is also a very interesting book. It is well written too. If you have nothing to read, i recommend you read Suite Scarlett.”
“I liked this book a lot. Some parts made me go o.O, especially with Eric. He was a bit of a perv in my mind. But other than that, Spencer was ADORABLE. Mrs. A annoyed the heck of out me. Otherwise, lovely :)”
