Fairie, where a mix of mechanical dragons and magic make a dangerous, sordid, magical, beautiful world, Will tries to make his way based on wit and luck. He travels to Babel, the magical tower, where he learns illusion and disillusion. Quite a tale, not always nice, but like the place itself,...

This is another one of those books that I want to like...but can't recommend. It starts out great, but by the middle of the book--the language and other graphic descriptions make it rated R. Instead of Babel, it should have been Sodom and Gomorrah! It is compelling and the plot takes twists and...

He travels to Babel, the magical tower, where he learns illusion and disillusion. Quite a tale, not always nice, but like the place itself, this story has fantasy elements and a narrative that make it exciting and fun read. Reminds me of 'Mortal Engines' and a little of Tad Williams...

The dragons don't feature as heavily as they title would have you believe, but those who like off-beat fantasties shouldn't be disappointed! Strange creatures, modern politics, sex, adventure, greed, and magic all collide.

It is the sequel to The Iron Dragon's Daughter which I did not know until I was lost two chapters in on what was going on.
I keep going and things fell into place and I left la la land.
So if you have not read The Iron Dragon's Daughter then do so before you read this one The Dragons of Babel. This will help keep you out of la la land.
Page 72 pretty much sums it up.
"A Dragon crawled into our village and declared himself King.
    Brief Synopsis from inside cover.
"Nighty, the War Dragon crawls inside the young fey's brain to get a measure of what the subjects think."
Now that is all you get,I don't want to give to much away. :0)
Love Michael Swanwick unique imagination and way with painting a picture with words.
I don't recommend this to high school or younger does have some explicit sexual content.
Found this on Page 314 and for some reason I can't get it out of my head great quote. "A hunted animal does not run full-out until the predator is in sight, but saves its energy for the crisis. "
