A terrifying story of supernatural suspense, as a woman searches for the inherited power that can save her hometown from evil forces. Tananarive Due's first three novels gained her legions of dedicated fans who recognize a true master of the genre. Now she returns with her best yet -- a chilling story set in a small town in the Pacific Northwest. The house Angela Toussaint's late grandmother owned is so beloved that townspeople in Sacajawea, Washington, call it the Good House. But is it? Angela hoped her grandmother's famous "healing magic" could save her failing marriage while she and her family lived in the old house the summer of 2001. Instead, an unexpected tragedy ripped Angela's family apart. Now, two years later, Angela is moving past her grief and taking control of her life as a talent agent in Los Angeles, and she is finally ready to revisit the rural house she loved so much as a child. Back in Sacajawea, Angela realizes she hasn't been the only one to suffer a shocking loss. Since she left, there have been more senseless tragedies, and Angela wonders if they are related somehow. Could the events be linked to a terrifying entity Angela's grandmother battled in 1929? Did her teenage son, Corey, reawaken something that should have been left sleeping? With the help of Myles Fisher, her high school boyfriend, and clues from beyond the grave, Angela races to solve a deadly puzzle that has followed her family for generations. She must summon her own hidden gifts to face the timeless adversary stalking her in her grandmother's house -- and in the Washington woods.

Angela marriage is in peices and her son barely wants to see her. So in an effort to reconnect with her son, she takes him to her grandmother's home in Sacajawea, Washington. The Good House at is was called still reminds her of her childhood growing up with Grandma Marie and she hopes the peace she found there will help mend fences with her sixteen year old son, Corey. Little does Angela know that her family history and the Good House will change the course of her life. The house will bring reveal secrets that may not be so good.
This was a enthralling horror/suspense book. All the characters were well developed and you could care about all of them. I did like the blend of Marie Toussaint history along with current events with Angela. The book also blended in events with Corey and how those were effecting Angela. I only felt the last two chapters were a little weird and the second to last one didn't flow as well as the entire rest of the book. On the whole though, it was a good read.

I loved this book! It slows up a bit in the middle of the story but she pulls it together really well. I think I particularly liked the idea that paths can be determined or effected by generational links and decisions. Remember Friday the 13th (the tv series) where the two cousins couldn't go on with their lives before cleaning up the mess of their dead uncle's past sins? That's kinda what this reminds me of.

I LOVE reading books that have characters in it that look like I do. Moreover, I love it when the books are well written and thought provoking. This was an EXCELLENT read. Ms.Due takes us between time, both past and present. I just finished this book an hour ago and I still can't even wrap my head around what happened enough to write a review, so let me say this, THIS IS A MUST READ.

AWESOME BOOK!! I was actually afraid of the book! I couldn't have it in the same room with me at night and I refused to read it without my husband nearby. Only read it during the day. Absolutely loved the story and how Ms. Due wrote it. Must read!!

I finished this book this very minute. It took me two weeks to get it done, but it was worth it. This was my first read by Tananarive (except for Casanegra with Blair and Barnes). This is a genre I'm just starting to get into and I look forward to reading more of her work. Any suggestions on what I should read next by her?
