I found the first parts of this book to be more interesting to me than the last half. He talked about how he did research for his book The Hot Zone and I found it fascinating. He actually suited up in a level 4 bio lab! And he talked about how he pays attention to little things like the small scar on a characters hand. Since I enjoyed the Hot Zone I liked hearing how he did it. Good book!

Panic in Level 4 Richard Preston

From the author of The Hot Zone comes the journey of his research into his books. It really is a fascinating journey (and how dedicated he is to actually go as far as he does in his research.) He takes you on a journey through the Ebola virus, of what causes it and how it started. It really gives you insight on the Hot Zone. And the fact that he actually talked himself (how I have no idea) into being taken into the "Hot Zone" and came very close to the Ebola virus is just frightening.

I thought that this book was really interesting if you are interested in books about advances in science and math throughout the years. Because I am more interested in science than in math, which is why I found half of the book boring.

Just bought this Tuesday night. Read the chapter on Lesch-Nyhan disease (some symptons are an inability to control biting and hands) Caution: There are some excruciating passages and pictures describing these symptons. The writer makes some amazing analogies between nail-biting and "turning the volume up" to eating one's hands... Written by the author of The Hot Zone, the book that reported on the Ebola epidemic in the 90's.
