Great book, all parents new and experienced should read this book. It's a bit hard to get through in some parts but the general message is clear.
I wish their was a more concise version of this book. I would love to give it to some busy-mum friends of mine.

I read this and was convinced, and have parented Kohn style since. Has it made my kid better behaved? I don't know. But it has made me happier. I believe it will keep my relationship with my kids happy throughout life. I believe this.

If you read one parenting book in your life this should be it! I read it slowly and took time to play around with the ideas with my girls.

A fine book with practical advice. I love Alfie Kohn's writing style. Warm and not patronizing. If you feel like you're stretched very thin or that everyone in the world is a crappy parent but you and what is the world coming to, read this book and you will feel better.

Do you want to be a parent who influences your children, rather than controls them? Read this book.
Kohn opened my eyes to the beauty of loving your children no matter what they do.

I liked this book, it certainly made me think beyond some of the more traditional disciplinary tactics we've been using. But I don't consider myself a Kohn-ite by any means. Some people adhere to his ideas like it is some kind of religion, I just appreciate his insights and continue searching for a balance between parent and child that I feel is good for my family.

Could be a bit irritating to read, as he doesn't offer a tidy recipe to follow at the end, more a broad set of ideas and thoughts for you to chew on.

I think there are lots of really good ideas and methods in here. I think this is a super way to raise children, altho I'm not certain it can be applied all the time.

This is my favorite parenting book. Kohn writes about the danger of using rewards and punishments with children and the importance of using understanding and communication.

How we view and treat our children is so important and moulds them into the person they become. This book gives you a reason to question your beliefs that our society dictates.
Ideas and theories are backed up with clearly referenced studies.
Some ideas may seem quite controversial. Read with an open mind.

Presented reasonable explanations for avoiding rewards and punishments and using working-with strategies instead of doing-to strategies with children. I was bothered by the condescending and sarcastic tone sometimes present in the book.
