“Great information and insightful into how the government, particularly the State Department works.”

I hope also that VP Biden, as well as all individuals in the cabinet, including Secretary of State Clinton take from Albright's experience and wisdom to further the progress of the US. In this book, Albright makes very clear where we have failed in policy and procedure, and explains ways we might make our nation better.
She is incredible!”
“Drawing from her years of service Ms Albright makes common sense recomendations for the next US Pres.”

Although the subject is of great importance, Albright just couldn't compete with my usual reads which are mostly fiction. She does know her subject and she reminded me of all the things I don't know about the US and our relations with other countries.
Albright is brilliant and for that reason I am very glad I read this book. I now feel like I have a small inkling of the work ahead of Obama and his team. I am not sure that any other writer could have been so concise and informative. I am not running out to get Albright's earlier works, but I will be interested to see what she writes about our international relations in the future.”
“Another excellent book by former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who I am quickly beginning to consider one of the most intelligent people in the country. The book is written as a lengthy memo to the as-yet-unknown winner of the 2008 presidential election. I found the format, where she constantly addresses this person as "you" throughout the book, a bit forced, especially because large parts of the book are more exposition than direct advice. I also thought her conscious decision of continually using the pronoun "he" to refer to the president and "she" for the Secretary of State a bit strange --- I understand she wanted it to be balanced, and obviously there's a chance the next president will be female, and an equal chance the next Secretary of State will be male. However, the general rule in these cases is to just use the male pronoun --- not to use "he/she" or, even worse, "(s)he, and definitely not to make arbitrary calls like the one she made. It's a small thing, but I have to confess having her refer to the SoS as "she" throughout the book got on my nerves. All this is just nitpicking however. The book is an excellent overview of the USA's foreign policy, past and present, and full of good advice for the future. I prefer her last book "The Mighty and the Almighty", maybe because it had a tighter focus (i.e. on the intersection of religion and politics), but this is still a very informed book, written with admirable clarity and benefiting from the writer's great wealth of experience. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing this amazing woman in the cabinet of the next Democrat-in-office once again. We should be so lucky! ”
