“I love this book. F. Sionil Jose is one magnificent Filipino novelist. Very vivid storytelling. It's like in a time warp, from the American occupation period in Manila to the Japanese occupation era to the Marcos era. An erotic way of writing with a touch of history :) A must read if you want to know how Ermita evolved from a posh/high-end residential area to become what is now a prostitute-hived tourist belt. But after reading it, you'll realize it is a reflection of our country's status.”
“fucking irony free melodramatic crap from the person whom we least expect it from, known for his period novels and the rosales trilogy. Mr F.Sionil Jose writes for the nth time about something very close to our hearts and what fucking let down the ending was !!! A resounding "FUCK YES" his retort to the age old question : Is there really redemption in this world for a whore ?”
“I couldn't help but sympathize with Ermita's character, as she got lost in the world of "glamorous' prostitution. It was a very tragic childhood for her and no one can really blame her for what happened to her life.”
“Yeah, the novelist is really good! I have read his whole, five-book 'Rosales Saga' plus 'Ben Singkol' and of course, 'Ermita'. Have you read all his novels? He has at least 11 novels plus 5 more collection of short fiction. It's interesting that you are interested in a Filipino author. I’ll be adding more filipino books soon. And see if you have read them already and maybe you can share your reactions again : )”
