It's sort of philosophy 101 level insightful, but written in a way more entertaining way than any philosophy textbook. Let's put it this way: I was in an airport, there was a limited selection, and I knew that if nothing else I would be entertained by Klosterman's writing style. If you're in that type of situation, give it a go. If not, you might want to try something else.”

I really didn't like the writing from several different people's view points, or the fact that it was pretty much just a piece of time from their perspectives...there really wasn't an over-arching theme, other than small-town life in North Dakota and randomness. Although I know many people love this kind of read, I need more from a writer.”

Yeah, the ending is kind of rough. Nearly everyone here knows someone who died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a vehicle. It's especially dangerous in that the victim feels sleepy, loses consciousness and dies. That said, I was looking for a different ending.”
“ending killed me”

His first ever novel turns out to be a mixed bag. While it's not a bad story, by any stretch of the imagination (there are several really good passages, and I was never bored), I can't say it left me with any lasting impressions. But there's enough good stuff here that I could recommend it in good faith, and to hope he writes another novel. Klosterman has a way of always finding an interesting perspective on anything that I'm always eager to see what he comes up with.”
