This is the second or third book by Benazir Bhutto that I have read. I tend to take her books with a grain of salt, as she distorts the history of Pakistan to benefit the Bhutto family. I was therefore pleasantly surprised to read this book, as it turned out to be packed with useful information...

This book was very informative and interesting although parts were a bit dry and too factual; a bit hard to follow.

I have been reading this book for the past year. It's well detailed and I am learning so much about Islam, Democracy, Muslim religion, and human rights. When i finish reading it I know i'll have to start reading it all over again because it's got that much information i've probably haven't been able to soak in the first time around.

While Bhutto is not the best writer ever, she outlines a clear vision of a positive future for her country. Her intellect and incredible courage shine through...she was writing this book, even as her life was threatened. And of course, in the end, she payed the ultimate price.

A worthwhile read for anyone who wants to better understand Pakistan, partition from India and this part of the Islamic world better.

I have always liked Ms Bhutto, and indeed her father Zulfikar.

This is the second or third book by Benazir Bhutto that I have read. I tend to take her books with a grain of salt, as she distorts the history of Pakistan to benefit the Bhutto family. I was therefore pleasantly surprised to read this book, as it turned out to be packed with useful information about Islam, Pakistan and the politics of the developing world that I could actually use. Yes, it contains the same distortion and melodrama that I have come to associate with the Bhuttos, but is a helpful snapshot of the thinking of the "liberal" "westernized" Muslims.

A much needed undertaking to show a clear split between the Quranic message and the extremist engine of hate, and portray the consequences of fascist dictatorships and the resulting plight of the people... A commendable effort indeed!

Having said that, the final slogan of the "Afterword" completely demolished my respect for those listed in that section. A true slogan would have something reflecting the ideals rather than the person...

The very first hurdle Pakistanis need to overcome is to give up their worship of personalities! If they are to start pursuing ideals of equality and justice, a humane society would soon follow!
