Didn’t Like It

Didn't get through this book for some reason. I guess it wasn't as funny or captivating as I hoped, though in the 1/3 I read there were definately a few interesting and amusing stories.

Not so much a "field guide" as an unapologetic "apologia." In one paragraph the author makes his own cheap jokes about Italian character flaws and in the next minimizes responsibility for choices made while implying the problem is in the eye of the beholder (non-Italian). "We're screwed up but aren't we cute?" is not a quote but it might as well be.

I loved Beppe's other book, "Ciao America!", much more than this one. I was a bit disappointed in this book, considering Beppe is from Italy himself.

I couldn't stand this book. I thought it would be clever, witty, amusing - alas! It didn't meet expectations. It was as dry as yesterday's bread and just about as interesting. I am cautiously optimistic that perhaps it was just the translation, but it's not worth seeking out the italian version. Very rarely do I not finish a book... and this one went back to the library only half read.
