Read it in two sittings. Could not put it down. Maybe needs a more robust ending.

I love James Frey. Enough said.

I listened to the audiobook and was disappointed. It made me miss not having the book so that I could skip through the minutes long readings of lists throughout the book. The history sections were okay. Some were interesting while others were long and monotonous. I enjoyed the character plots but was left feeling disappointed at their development and their endings. I don't like to be left hanging and waiting to hear from the characters.

A wonderful melding of life stories that paint a contemporary portrait of Los Angeles. I loved it.

I didn't necessarily like this book. I felt it was a bit disjointed moving back and forth between 3 stories and having LA history thrown in as well. The stories were not incredibly interesting and while I didn't hate the book I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Frey is the infamous author of the supposed memoir A Million Little Pieces. Oprah Winfrey loved the memoir, made it a book club pick, raved about it and then some pieces of the book were proven to be untrue. Ouuu- she was angry!! It was an awesome read though- so who really cares. And his latest book- all fiction- is great as well. It follows the lives of those who end up in Los Angeles looking to fulfill their dreams- whatever they are- stardom, surfing, freedom, riches, love...The characters are real and story-lines draw you in. It's also intermixes with actual tidbits of LA history. Quick read- good stuff. If I didn't know it before I read this book I do now- I live a totally sheltered life!

This was not Frey's best work. I found it very mismatched and scatter brained. I did not enjoy the pages and pages of facts about LA and just skipped to the stories of the characters I liked best. Maybe you have to be a citizen of Los Angeles to enjoy this one but let's just say I'm glad I got it from the library instead of buying it!

Pretty strong really. I hate to say it but I like James Frey, if I said I like Dave Matthews Band...you can punch me square in the dick.
