This was a book that was hard to put down but at the same time there were some real disturbing parts. Disturbing only becuase they portrayed how people were treated by the government and KGB. It made me so glad to live where I do.

I really liked the first half of this book. I was really enjoying the history and thaught the concept was great, then it turned into this weird murder story. I would not really recommend this book to anyone.

The most amazing mystery about a Communist "policeman" in 1953 - he investigated a serial killer in a country where there were no "murders" b/c a happy Communist had no need to kill. I could find nothing to nit pick about in this book. The way conversation was used added a layer to the idea of Soviet secrecy.

A wonderful book. There was not enough time in the day for me to read this, and when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it. Hauntingly asks readers the question, what happens when a crime is committed in a supposedly crime-less country? Take the time to read this, you will not regret it!

Slow starter but once you get through the first third or so, this book is packed with exciting twists. Definitely not a light-hearted tale as it's set in Stalinist Russia and is primarily about the search for a serial killer of children. Overall, it was an interesting read with some decent thrills.

This is such a page turner and I was on the edge of my seat through the whole thing. I would strongly advise you to read this. It takes place in Russia and is a mystery. It is also historical and tells about the communist regime. This book would make a great movie.

I really enjoyed this page-turning thriller set in Stalinist Russia. The plot kept moving and there were a lot of twists and turns. It reminded me a little of 'Gorky Park' (which I am now going to reread). Child 44 is worthy of its booker nomination. Definitely recommend it.

I found the book depressing at first, but then it became gradually more hopeful. There was good character development. I read it in less than 2 days!

Truly a page turner and fast read. It made me pause to be thankful for what I have, compared to the characters of this novel. It was almost uncomfortable to read about the lives of these people.

Gripping novel with a grisly topic. After the grim and grey beginning, it is a real page turner. One that leaves you with lots of questions about how people can still be manipulated to do evil, while thinking it is for the ultimate greater good.
