- Cassie Madden: Nanny to the man she began to love when she was 12,
- Jefferson Ames: man that Cassie has loved or crushed on since she was 12, he is a widower and father of a 5 yr old daughter that Cassie adores and gets along well with. And unknown to Cassie or was in the CIA but now is teaching for them. His wife was murdered because of his job.
- Thomas Ames: James' father also a former CIA agent. Has fallen in love as has his son when he'll admit to it and his granddaughter Elsbeth.
- Elsbeth Ames: 5 yr old daughter of Jeff Ames,
- Skylar Beaumont: woman that Jeff is supposedly seeing under cover but not under the covers, she is his client to protect. And she is a pain in the neck.
- David Beaumont: Skylars father that the government is courting and seems to want his daughter to have anything she wants.
- Roger Craig: A friend and collegue of Jeffs and husband to Dana. and exlover of Skylars from years in college.
- Dana Craig: wife of Rogers and despises Skylar and hates Cassie as she has grown attached to Elsbeth, she wants children of her own but is affraid she'll never have any
- Althea Fairmont: A former actress who lives in a mansion that is next door and sandwhiched in between Jeffs and Rogers place they are working together to keep her safe as she has information about things that put her in great danger. She also busys herself with all the local gossip. And is trying to get Jeff and Cassie together by making Jeff jealous of Cassie. Turns out she has been a spy for the US Gov. for years and years. And is being watched over by Jeff and his father and Roger, Hinton was the love of her life and Charles was the bane of it but was a lover. She and Hinton had a daughter from their one time together. Althea orchestrates another chance for Jeff and Cassie to finally get together.
- Brent Goodwin: A rookie CIA agent who is working to protect Althea, he is pretending to date Cassie. though he has a steady girl up north. And he idolizes Jeff and his father. and knows a tremendous amount about Altheas career and movies.
- Rosalie: cook and house keeper sent by the CIA. to work for Althea
- Leo: English agent that Jeff works with
- Charles Faulkner: another exlover of Altheas he had asked her to marry him but she said no for she was in love with Hinton but he was married and she wanted to be respectful and so did not pursue a physical relationship with Hinton. She lived with Charles until it was found that she cheated with Hinton. even though Charles was cheatin on her first with the REAL wife of Hinton.
- Hinton Landau (Landau Myers): lover of Althea, victim of Ruth Turner, and husband of Florence Turner, aquited of the murder of Florence Turner. He and Althea loved each other before they ever touched off Screen that is and then the one time they made love they produced a child. He never knew and the daughter didnt know.
- Florence Turner Myers: She and Hinton were married when they were young and she had become pregnant and then he went to Hollywood and became a star of sorts and then her sister Ruth went and blackmailed him into pretending to be his wife. Then she was offed by Ruth and her husband was temporarliy blamed for her murder.
First Sentence
Prologue:"Cassie had heard that drowning was the easiest form of death." Chapter 1: "Cassie, Cassie!" She opened her eyes to see her boss, Jefferson Ames, standing over her.
