I don't think I'll become a vegan now but I can say that I am changing some of my food choices. No more artificial sweeteners, less meat, etc. The...” see full review » see other reviews » |

They tell horror stories about what goes on in meat processing facilities to basically gross you out enough and make you never want to eat meat again. I like their take on eating lots of...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“I have always been turned off by this book because of the title it has... but, I guess that is why a book shouldn't be judged by their cover. This book is now a bit outdated, but it still has valid information and points. Honestly, I already knew a lot of the information that was given when it comes to eating animals/what it does to your body/what it does to the animals. Since I am already vegan I really agreed with a lot of the things that were said in this book. The girls were funny and entertaining to read. Do not be turned off by this title, the girls point out a couple times in the book that it was simply a marketing scheme. ”

But I did take away important info about sugar, aspartame, and non-fat foods. I havent had a diet coke in months. Havent lost weight either?
Very funny if you dont mind some bad language. I laughed a lot.”
“A pro-vegetarianism book written with an "in your face attitude". ”

It is also not a completely innapropriate book about looks being the only thing that matters. Contrary to it's title this is actually a book about living a cruelty-free, vegan lifestyle. The book is a lot like Fast Food Nation, By Eric Schosser, in the way that it exposes truths about the food industry and slaughterhouses that i actualy did not know before reading this book!(I read it before Fast Food Nation). It has many interesting facts such as how animals are put in tiny cages and basically tortured on these collective farms. I had no idea how many animals were actually slaughtered so inhumanely on these farms, or how many there actually were that recieved this treatment. apparently " of the ten billion animals slaughtered each year for human consumption, the vast majority of them come from factory farms." I believe the correct number is around 99% but I am not completely sure as I have only done resreach on the internet. I also had no idea of the hormones and pesticides they give these animals that ends up in our food, or the conflict of interest between the USDA and the FDA with protecting the farmers and "protecting" the health of Americans. This book is good for any girl who wants to become vegetarian or vegan but just needs an extra push, or for any girl with an open mind who is able to consider the idea that a change in diet as well as use of certain products, may be beneficial to them and others. The book also gives many good suggestions for further reading and healthy substitutes to eat.”
