This book is a very charming story about a daughter who believes that she can handle this "flip-flop" project...can she finally see that she can't do it on her own?? only God can help???

While I did enjoy the story and writing style, the ending turned me off. Everything resolved a little too easily and suddenly.

Normally, I don’t enjoy light reading, but this book has all the right elements to be classified a great beach read. Melody Carlson infuses spontaneous and entertaining humor throughout. You’ll find yourself laughing out loud more than once. Her characters have depth and will remind you of your friends. The setting of house flipping is more than accurate. Mrs. Carlson really did her homework to write this novel.

Gretchen Hanover is stuck in a rut. Ever since her fiance dumped her, she has kept herself in hiding in her little apartment watching HGTV and eating Ben and Jerry's ice cream. She finally decides to make a change in her life after watching an episode of "House Flippers" where the people take a house that needs some TLC and renovate it and then sell it to make a profit. Plus she has a new puppy that is soon going to outgrow the little apartment as well. But when Gretchen starts on this adventure she begins to wonder if it is not the biggest mistake of her life. And then to add even more trouble her dad wants Gretchen to hire Noah Campbell to help her with the project,he is divorced and her dad had tried to fix her up with him not too long ago. A Mile in My Flip Flops reminds us that it takes faith to renovate the heart, as well as the home.

I loved A Mile in My Flip-Flops. Gretchen is a bumbling house flipper whose efforts are hilarious, but somehow in the end, she manages to pull it off, and renovates not only her house but her life. Delicious characters and an unforgettable story make a great read. If you enjoy watching HGTV, you'll love A Mile in My Flip-Flops. I give it a high recommendation.

In the novel "A Mile In My Flip Flops" by Melody Carlson, Gretchen Hanover has become a recluse. Seeking solace in front of the tube watching Home and Garden TV with a container of Ben and Jerry's and a spoon, this charming leading lady tries to heal the heart broken by her fiancé only four weeks before the wedding! With the help of friends and family and God, Gretchen rises like a phoenix from the ashes of broken promises to discover new life and new love.

Melody writes a beautiful story full of wit and wisdom that inspires and teaches as it entertains. Her loveable characters come to life in vivid color. Gretchen's strength and reliance on God really inspired me to get out of my own personal ruts and more actively pursue God's will for my life.

Ok. While I liked this book, it didn't get help me spiritually. It's more of a romance with a little talk about God that a real spiritual book. But all in all it's a good book.
