Interesting and intriguing. This is the story of a minor character, Lavinia, from Virgil's Aenaid.

These types of books are not usually so full of good stuff, as my daughter would say. But LeGuinn has managed to bring Lavinia to life. It is made more interesting because LeGuinn is an excellent writer.

Following Lavinia from before her marriage to Aeneas and after, we are led through a culture that no longer exists. Time stands still while you read and learn what it was like to be the daughter of a king in pre-Roman Italy.
