The Reapers

by John Connolly

A brilliantly chilling novel by New York Times bestselling author John Connolly about a chain of killings, linked obscurely by great distances and the passage of years, and the settling of their blood-debts -- past, present, and future.

Suspenseful, yet melancholy, this story tells of two men, leading a life of crime, but with certain moralizing to their actions. Their disappearance is brought to the attention of Charlie Parker, ex-cop/P.I., who is not on the side of angels, but certainly considers himself on the side of right. The search for his two friends is told in suspenseful and somewhat horrible settings. Connolly never fails to raise the hairs on the arms and neck of the reader.

I'm completely addicted to this series and these characters. This book was a real treat for me, as I find Louis so fascinating. And Angel is a personal favorite of mine. I love that Connolly turned the focus to these two very intriguing characters.

My Favorite book of John's is still "The book of Lost Things" Followed by "The Killing Kind" But I've got to say that "The Reapers" gives "The Killing Kind" a run for its money. The story focuses on several secondary characters from the Charlie Parker series of books, and does an amazing job, fleshing out even further Angel and Louis. Great plotting, and excellent writing has always made this series stand out, and this elevates it to an even higher level.

John Connolly has stacked the deck and then busted his protagonists out enough times that you don’t really ever give up hope. But he has also damaged or killed off enough of the “good guys” that you never know who might be lost.

Not the strongest in the series, but Connolly added some great supporting characters in Willie and Arno.
