I’ve enjoyed Karen Templeton for a long time now, both her single-title books and her series romances. In this one, the hero is a divorced father and the heroine is the ex’s best friend. On a weekend when the hero has his 4-year-old daughter for a visit, the ex is killed in a car accident, and the story opens with him getting the news. Now he has to tell his daughter, who refuses to believe Mommy’s not coming back. The heroine comes skidding in to check on the little girl, but since she was Mommy’s best friend, she has a rather dark opinion of the hero. Except it does seem he cares about the child. Now, he apparently needs her to help his daughter adjust, and she’s having other, work and home issues he can help her with so... This is just a warm-hearted, well-written, good romance. I enjoyed it a lot.

If you're looking for a book that will pull at your heart strings and take you through a gamut of emotions, this is the book for you! Mia and Grant's journey is such a beautiful story of love, second chances and finding out who you really are and what you can actually do. Blurb: His daughter's birth made him a father. Becoming a daddy would take a bit longer… Connecticut mogul Grant Braeburn never thought he was father material, even though his nearly four-year-old daughter should have convinced him otherwise. But then his ex-wife's death made him Haley's permanent parent. Her only parent. He needed help, in a hurry. It came in the form of Mia Vaccaro, the lively, lovely party planner who had been his ex-wife's best friend. Mia was the only one who could touch Haley's broken heart. And, Grant was becoming increasingly aware, his as well.…

I bought all three books in Karen Templeton's "Guys and Daughters" series. This is the first book, featuring Mia Vaccaro and Grant Braeburn.

Mia is a power-lawyer-turned-party-planner, the only girl in a gregarious, six-kid, Italian-Hungarian family. Grant is the only child of a couple who've turned 'aloof' into a fine art.

When Grant's ex-wife dies, leaving him the sole caretaker of his four-year-old daughter (Haley), he grabs for the nearest lifeline, which happens to be his ex's best friend, Mia. She is close to his daughter and has some issues that he can help with, so she ends up living in his guest cottage to help the little girl adjust.

I loved Grant's slow slide into love and his struggle to get in touch with his emotions. Mia has trust issues of her own and the road to happiness isn't easy, compounded by Haley's inability to grasp her mother's death and deal with her grief.

An enjoyable, satisfying book and a solid start to the series.
