Forever perusing journals of scientific interest, Charles Fort (1874-1932) came across a letter to Land and Water, of June 4, 1881, in which a correspondent wrote that during a violent thunderstorm, tons of periwinkles had fallen from the sky, covering fields and a road for about a mile.
