Chapter 1 Indi

It's the last day of school and Indi is taking a final. Her mind isn't so much on the test as it is Marcus her long time boyfriend. Who I will say it again is like THE most dedicated and loyal and best boyfriend I have read about in a book! Hands down! For the first time they're gonna be seperated for the summer.

She's gonna be in Chicago and he's gonna be in Houston. So after school they ride out to the airport and Indi tells him her idea which is they should break up but just for the summer. If they find someone they like better over the summer they won't feel guilty. Then when they come back they can hook back up. Talk about have your cake and eat it too.

Any old boyfriend of mine would have NEVER let me make this pact. Not that I'd want too. Verdicts still out on whether this pact was a really smart idea or a stupid one. Indi clearly hasn't learned yet what she has in Marcus and that why in the world she'd have to look when she already HAS a good man right in her face. Doesn't she know how much "trash" is out there in Christmas wrapping and bows? But she is young so we'll excuse that. Actually she reminds me of my thirteen year old cousin. Well Marcus doesn't seem to think much of this idea but agrees to it anyway. He then drops her back home.

Chapter 2 Marcus.

Marcus arrives in Houston and his mom picks him up. Anyone can tell by the hints that because of her new cut, short dress, and the glow she has a new man. She also has a new ride which she lets Marcus drive home. She shows him around and then she has to leave and go back to work. Marcus gets settled in. When looking out his window that faces the pool, he sees a life guard that looks good and decides to go down to the pool to scope her out. He meets a girl named Michelle who is more than happy to give him the dirt on all the kids by the pool, even Rena. That’s the girl he wants to get to know better. Wow! Didn’t take him very long did it? Rena and he catch eyes and from here on out you know it’s about to be on.

Chapter 3 Indigo

Indi and her dad make it to Chicago. After giving her the grand tour, much of which she sleeps though, they arrive at Nana’s house. Seems like a party-family reunion is going on. Music, relatives, and food are everywhere. Indi gets reacquainted with among others her cousin Lil Keith, Cousin Benny *the comedian*, his wife Doreen, her favorite Uncle Keith and his new lady friend Deborah, and her cousin Sabrina who is 17 and has a baby. Indi use to envy all the freedom she had growing up, but looking at her now maybe she should be glad her parent’s didn’t let her run wild like Sabrina’s. Sabrina introduces her to her daughter and her new boyfriend Dugan. Not hot on the name. You can tell he’s not about anything from the jump cause he’s staring at Indigo. Obvious much? Nana pulls Indi away so they can catch up.

Chapter 4 Marcus

Marcus introduces himself to Renee. They talk for a minute but he kinda messes up when he disses tennis. She plays tennis! DAMN! So she gives him a invite for lessons at seven o clock in the morning. Now right here you know it’s a lust thing cause if it was otherwise he’d be at that court seven sharp. Also how else do we know it’s physical? He’s checking out her body. Til up pulls her man Cedric. Marcus goes back to his place and starts thinking bout how good his mama’s cooking is compared to his step moms. Then he starts thinking about how Renee is too good for Cedric and how he doesn’t stand a chance with her. Uh Marcus honey you don’t even KNOW her. Didn’t you just meet her yesterday?

Chapter 5 Indigo

Instead of everyone doing the Electric Slide they all start doing the Crack That Superman Dance. VERY Modern I might add. While they’re cleaning up Sabrina invites Indi to go out to a club with her later on that night. Indi again starts thinking about how independent and grown up Sabrina is. Hell I gotta admit I’m impressed my damn self. Sabrina’s 17 and I’m *uh moving right along* and I don’t even have all that. She also tells her that she and Dugan plan on marrying when she turns eighteen. Somehow Sabrina manages to convince Nana and Mr. Summers and soon they are in Dugan’s ride on the way to the apartment. Now do I have to spell it out? Sabrina works part time at a jewelry store. Dugan has a tan sports car. The apartment is nice and has leather furniture and a plasma television. She says he is going to buy her a escalade. The car they’re driving is a Caprice Class… Hmmmm… Can we guess what Dugan’s “occupation” is? It probably is his apartment also. .Indi is introduced to Dugan.

Chapter 6 Indigo

So Sabrina takes Indigo out to the club and she gets hit on and gets a lotta guys numbers. She realizes that it isn’t that much different from a teen club, except they serve alcohol. Indi and Sabrina go back to the apartment and she crashes on the couch. When she wakes up Dugan is cooking and he’s all up in her grill telling her how pretty she is. Then they start doing dance routines which is pretty strange in the middle of the night. But what’s even stranger is after they dance and eat he leaves. Oh kay! After he leaves Indi is kinda lusting over him.

Chapter 7 Marcus

Marcus wakes up to Michelle at his door. Does any one else get the picture of what’s that female version of Urkel’s name? They hang at the mall for a few and then return home. Marcus heads out to the gym for a little while and he runs into Renee. Renee ain’t no better than Dugan by much. So he spots her and he’s all lusting over her. She invites him to go to the beach later. He tries to think of a excuse cause he knows it’s trouble to go with her to the beach alone and she got a man but reluctantly he can’t think of any.

Chapter 8 Marcus
So they go to the beach. For a while they sit there and talk about schools. Then Renee starts stripping in front of him and they begin to make out in the water. Then she tells him she has to get home and denies having a boyfriend. Okay so I guess this chick just likes to go around lip-locking anything that looks good. TROUBLE! She wants to forget the whole thing. After questioning his mom about why girls behave like they do she then questions him about staying in Houston with her.

Chapter 9 Indigo

Indi and Sabrina hit the mall. Soon afterwards Indi discovers her cousin is a shop-lifter. Probably ain’t the first time. She calls Indi a “spoiled rich girl” but ain’t she kinda spoiled by her man the
“pharmecutical distributer”? How many designer names have been associated with her so far in this book? Shall we count? They head to a friend of her named Trish’s who is having a barbeque.

Chapter 10 Marcus

Michelle is BACK! Damn don’t this chick have a life? Don’t you just hate people like that, that don’t seem to know they’re wearing out there welcome? So she offers him tickets to the Lil Wayne concert first row. UGGGGGGGGGG! I think I’d PASS! But like everyone else on this planet that actually is deluded enough to believe that Lil Wayne has any REAL talent Marcus JUMPS at the oppourtunity. She goes down to the pool to see Renee again but is invited to play a basketball game. After debating he accepts and they all go down the court.

So people are lined up to play and a fight breaks out. One guy leaves and another replaces him with Marcus. He plays about five straight games and wins and then decides to head back to the apartment. His mom is home. We’re finally introduced to mystery dude. Turns out his name is Leon. If this ain’t funny. I keep picturing my mom’s boyfriend of upteen years *same name*. Turns out they got engaged at lunch. Whoa! Low blow.

NOT the way to spring that on your son or daughter! But his pop pretty much did him the same way. After a while and some rest he has a change of heart, when his mom apologizes and he sees that she’s been crying. He tells her he wants to live in Houston with her. He then tells his pop his decision. After obviously being hurt that he’d been the one to raise Marcus after his mom has walked out on them he relents and gives Marcus his blessing. Marcus thinks of how he wants to be a man of character just like his dad.

Chapter 11

Nana and Indi have a talk over pizza about not imitating what she sees and being her own person. The message hasn’t sunk in.

Chapter 12

Marcus decides to fill Leon out. They have lunch at a Mexican joint and afterwards they go shoot some hoops. By the end of the day Leon has earned Marcus’s respect somewhat. Gee! Just cause the man can make a basket?

Chapter 13

Marcus, Michelle, and Andre are hanging out at the pool again. This time the girl in the yellow bikini Tiffany comes over and tries to get Marcus’s info. Dang Marcus! You got all the women on you! So Renee starts hating and tells them to stop playing around in the pool. Ain’t that what the pool is for? Damn they’re just having fun. So Tiffany invites them all over her house to watch DVDS. They watch two and order pizza. Michelle and Marcus leave but Andre stays. Yeah you know he trying to hit. So when Marcus goes back home Renee is sitting on his door steps waiting. Of course she’s jealous. Michelle acts all hater ish this time and Marcus diss misses her and invites Renee in. They soon end up in his bedroom and I’m thinking uh oh it’s bout to be ON!

Indi and Marcus ain’t doing nothing so you know he bout to tear it up! But then speaking of Indi, who should call. He answers the phone (I would have been so pissed) and she hangs up. Then his mom comes home. Narrowly they don’t get busted. Me I would have been SO busted!
She stays for dinner but his mom tells him he can’t have girls in his room no more. SO CLOSE! She had almost made it to the door.

Chapter 14
Nana and Indi watch some television. Jade texts and calls and she tells her about her club experience. Marcus has left her a vm, but since it was Nana who’d call him she doesn’t call him back. She thinks he’s mad about the pact.

Chapter 15
Marcus picks up Michelle for the Lil Wayne concert *gag* But surprisingly Michelle is HOT! Him and Andre can’t take they’re eyes off her. They watch the concert and Marcus is thinking he might be related to Lil Wayne cause his last name is Carter and they’re both from New Orleans. He’s thinking of how he is gonna ask him when he gets backstage, but Michelle has lost the tickets. Aww 2 Bad *Sarcastically. Guess Michelle will have to go home and check under the counter and hope to get lucky* (Sorry if anyone who reads this likes Lil Wayne). She’s all right though by the end of the night. *Yeah I know she would be* When they get home Renee has texted Marcus.

Chapter 16

It’s the 4rth of July. Marcus and his dad have a tradition to shoot M-80;s *never heard of em*.
He wants his mom and he to start a tradition and go to this concert in the park, but she tells him she has too much work to do. So he goes to this party that they’re throwing by the pool. He sees Michelle reading a Kimani Tru book and creeps the book while she goes to get another one for him to read. The book is so good he stays in his room all afternoon reading it, until his mom interrupts and tells him that she’ll go to the concert.

Chapter 17

Indi and her family also go to a concert to see Alicia Keys. When they return home Indi looks for Nana and finds her sprawled out in the yard.

Chapter 18

Marcus and his mom have a good time at the concert. He’s happy to see her finally relaxing. When they get home it’s late. They fire up the grill and surprisingly his mom shoots some of the illegal firecrackers with him.

Chapter 19
Indi is waiting for the results of her grandmother’s progress in the hospital. Her Uncle Keith shows up and the doctors tell them Nana is gonna be okay. They see Nana and she tells them she’s going to be fine. Indi tries to stay there with Nana but the doctors tell her she can’t. Sabrina offers to let her stay with her until Nana is better.

Chapter 20

Marcus and the others are at the court when Cedric comes up. He gets into a shoving match with Marcus and pretty soon they are both on the ground delivering blows. Cedric delivers the shocking news that Marcus is gonna be a daddy. Not even his “friends” believe him when he says he didn’t touch Renee. So he goes to confront Renee. The story is she found out she was pregnant and left the box in the trash can. Her parent’s found out and asked who the father was. She couldn’t say Cedric because her father might kill him cause he thinks he’s a no good drug dealer. That’s the reason why they broke up. She still loved him but Marcus came along and so she told her father Marcus was the daddy. But wait how much time has passed in this book? The math doesn’t even seem right but never mind..

Renee wants Marcus to pretend it’s his until she gets a abortion. Then she’ll tell her dad the truth and he won ‘t kill Cedric. She also wants Marcus to take her to the clinic to have it done. Oh yeah and she doesn’t tell Cedric because she knows that he’ll want to step up and be a father. Well that’s better than the other alternative.

Chapter 21

Marcus takes Renee to the abortion clinic and waits in the car. He feels bad about not going with her inside but really doesn’t wanna be seen at a place like that. She doesn’t say anything all the way back and just gets out the car. He goes in the house and some how his mom can tell that something is wrong. She asks him about it but doesn’t really get very far when someone comes to the door. It’s Renee’s father and his is PISSED! Renee hasn’t told him NOTHING! She just stands there and lets him think that Marcus forced her to get the abortion. I would be so through with this chick. What’s worse is he mom just takes his keys and doesn’t even try to hear him out. I agree Houston really ain’t the place for Marcus.

Chapter 22

Indi and Sabrina go out to another club but this time Sabrina gets SMASHED. She gives Indi the keys and tells her to drive home. Indi doesn’t even have a license. Does she even have a permit? She smashes into another car and flees the scene. She does call the police and send them to the scene of the accident. When they get home Dugan hits on her and tries to molest her. Sabrina wakes up and they start arguing. Indi goes outside and calls Uncle Keith and Marcus.

Chapter 23

Indi tells Marcus everything! Marcus *the knight in shining armor* immediately no questions asked, packs his bags and jumps on a flight to Chicago. When he sees Indi and kisses her he knows the pact is over.

Chapter 24

Indi tries to cook Marcus pancakes. When he gets there they go over to Sabrina’s place and he knocks Dugan’s lights out. Ain’t this a B****? Sabrina tells Indi to leave cause she’s caused enough problems. DAMN! So then on their way out Dugan is arrested by the cops for drug trafficking and he’s also sexually assaulted another women. After all this and I bet you a 100 dollars Sabrina still stays with him. Indi and Marcus explain everything to Nana. Nana makes Marcus call his mom. How did Marcus and Indi get BACK over to Sabrina’s?

Chapter 25

Marcus talks to his mom and after she calms down he explains to her the whole situation about Renee and why he did what he did. She admits that his father has done raising him and invites him to come back and spend summers with her and Leon. She accepts his decision to remain in Atlanta Over all he thinks the summer was good but he’ll be happy to get back to his life with Indi.

Chapter 26
Indi pretty much is thinking the same thing as she waves good bye to Nana. We learn that Leon intended to sent Marcus to a all boys school if he would have stayed, Oh KAY.
