FICTION KINGSBURY”
“
The book that I chose to read for free reading this month was This Side of Heaven. I really enjoyed reading this book for many reasons. I really liked the author, Karen Kingsbury. I liked the big shock that happened in the middle of the story. I also liked how the story ended.
One thing I liked about the book, This Side of Heaven was the author, Karen Kingsbury. I enjoyed her style of writing. In every chapter, Karen Kingsbury, focused on one main character and told the story from their point of view. Then, in the next chapter she would switch who the main character was and continue with the same story except a different person would be telling it. I liked Karen Kingsbury’s style of writing because it kept me interested throughout the whole book.
Another thing I enjoyed about this book was the major twist in the middle of the story. At the beginning, the book tells about the main character, Josh, who is in the process of recovering from a major car accident. The book soon tells of Josh’s addiction to pain medication and how he takes way too much medicine as soon as he feels pain. The book also tells how he has a daughter, Savannah, whom Josh has been trying to find and gain custody of ever since she was born. Then, right in the middle of the book, Josh was coming back from a court trial in which he was trying to gain custody of Savannah. While Josh was driving he felt a sharp pain and as soon as he got home he overdosed on his pain medication to relieve it. The next morning, as Josh’s neighbors were coming over to visit, the found Josh inside his house, in his bedroom, dead. This part in the book really shocked me because Josh was so close to finding Savannah and now he was dead. I really liked this part in the book because it grabbed my interest.
The final thing I enjoyed about the book, This Side of Heaven, was the ending. After the car accident, Josh’s parents had been ashamed and disappointed in him. They felt this because not only had Josh failed to go to college like his sister, he got a job as a lowly tow truck driver and that was how he got hurt. Ever since then, Josh’s parents had missed out on his life and not paid much attention to him. Then, after Josh’s death, his parents went back to his apartment so that they could clean up his things and pack them away. There they discovered that he really did have a daughter and he was not lying. His parents also found that Josh had rescued two young girls from a drunk driver and had risked his life saving them, which was the real cause of the accident and all of Josh’s pain. During this time they went back to Josh’s lawyer who found Savannah and help them try to gain custody of her because that was what Josh would have wanted. At the end of the book, Josh’s parents ended up rescuing Savannah from her abusive mother and getting full custody of her. Everyday afterward, Savannah was able to learn all about her daddy that she had never met. All she had known previous to that was that he was her Prince Charming. I loved the ending of this book. It actually brought tears to my eyes.
I loved the book This Side of Heaven. It was a great book and I am glad a chose it for my free reading book. I also highly recommend it for others.

But will continue reading more of her books. At first I did not think I would like the book because it got into things again of another legititmate child story.
Other christian authors are doing that also. And I wish they wouldn't. But this book I liked very much and would say I would tell others to read it also.”
“Loved it!”

No one listened when she cried for the daddy she didn't know . . . Now, in the ashes of tragedy, lies a vindication neither could've imagined.
Annie Warren always wanted the best for her son, Josh. But years of failure and bad choices created a heartbreaking distance that has grown far worse since the day Josh was hit by a drunk driver.
Now on medical disability, Josh has put his life on hold for years, waiting for the insurance company to send a settlement that never seems to come.
Worse, he believes the story of a scheming woman who claims they have a seven-year-old daughter named Savannah.
Despite the unlikelihood and complete lack of evidence, Josh dreams of being a father and is determined to one day claim the child. His family doesn't know the full story. They don't know what happened the night of the accident that was worth the chronic pain Josh suffers every waking minute, or that he is turning his life around. They haven't seen that Savannah's eyes are his, and they don't know how desperately the little girl needs her family.
When the settlement that rightly belongs to Josh is threatened, Annie sets out to defend her son. But she might find a treasure more valuable than money, one she never expected, one that is the greatest gift her son could ever give her--THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN.
A story of family secrets, broken relationships, and a love strong enough to span an ocean this side of heaven.”
