“"I ran into several good reviews of this book while researching on cloud computing on the Internet. This book provides a perspective that is very valuable in how cloud computing may impact society in addition, of course, to its economic disruptiveness. The comparison with the electrical grid of early 1900s is very illuminating."”

An enjoyable read and good refresher either way.”

It does provide an interesting view on the journey of technological innovation right from invention of Electricity, improvisation to Electricity grids, invention of computing devices, mainframes, Personal computers to the current era of cloud computing, virtualization, Software as a service and Hardware as a service. It attempts to draw parallels between the era of Electricity grids to the availibility of computing power also in the form of grids and also addresses finer points that made Electricity grids make such a huge impact. I found it to be a quite an interesting read and it does attempt to give a sense of direction in which computing is headed to.”

The author uses an analogy of electric power plants to illustrate how we are moving towards cloud computing from the traditional desktop software and how this is wise move. The later part of the book describes in detail the possible difficulties we may encounter due to the internet.
One particular chapter stands out where it is explained that the ultimate goal of Google is to integrate their search engine with our brains directly...We are not far from science fiction after all.. ”
“I personally feel this is another piece of disappointment from Mr Carr. I have a full length post on my blog at www.yaxislive.com. You could also go to the post directly here http://tinyurl.com/3h2que”
