Sachie's previously-unknown grandfather adopts her after her mother dies. Her grandfather is a yakuza boss of the Asagi Clan. Rakuto is assigned as her bodyguard, but he's this distracting combination of nice and mean. He does sweet things like buy her doll set back and yet she is miffed as to his feelings for her. Possibly he likes her because ten years ago they wrote letters to each other.

A totally charming new series. Perhaps it's just because I'm home sick, making me slightly emotional, but I was actually tearing up a couple times.

It has many of the standard elements of shojo manga: an orphaned girl who finds a new strange but loving family, a gorgeous boy seemingly devoted to her happiness yet full of his own dark mysteries, and opportunities for the heroine to discover her own identity and power. In this case, Sachie discovers she's the granddaughter of a yakuza leader (think The Godfather, except as handsome old Japanese man). His henchman are sweet and bumbling in their attempts to care for their boss's grandaughter, but her assigned bodyguard, a boy about her age, is strict and tough with her. But Sachie soon discovers her own strength and makes it clear she's part of the family.

The only part I found a bit disturbing is how kindly the grandfather is portrayed, considering he's a gang leader. But for those of you who loved Tony Soprano, I'm sure this won't be a problem.

When Sachie's mother dies, she goes to live with her grandfather and a house full of yakuza. One really cute young guy is assigned to be her bodyguard. A rather enviable thing for her. What makes this series so much fun is a combination of the beautiful art of Kiyo Fujiwara and the fabulous personalities of the characters. The yakuza are surprisingly lovable; Sachie is cute, drools at the mention of food and stands up for those in need; Azuma is really good at dealing with children and loves well; Rakuto is perfect and sarcastic on the surface, but entirely steadfast and loving below.
