    • Shay Bourne was a carpenter that worked for a family of 3: June, the mother, Kurt, the new father, and Elizabeth, Kurt's stepdaughter and June's daughter. June was 8 months pregnant with a girl. When she came back form her doctor's appointment, she found Kurt and Eliazbeth murdered, by Shay Bourne.
11 years later, Shay is sentenced to die by lethal injection. He doesnt mind at all...until he fnds out that June's 11-year-old girl, Claire, needs a heart to survive. Maggie Bloom, Shay's lawyer, and Father Micheal, his spirtual advisor, struggle and fight for him to die by being hanged, because the lethal injection kills the heart, while hanging kills it slower. Other prisoners discover that Shay can produce miracles, from healing the dead to distributing 1 bazooka gum to plenty prisoners, by changing the gum to many. Micheal realizes that he quotes sayings from the bible, even though he was illetrate and never read the bible before, so everyone belives that he's the Messiah. Shay won the case, but then Micheal dscovers that Shay's innocent...
      Here's what really happened:
June left for the appointment, and Shay left the house, only to remember that he left his tool box in the house. He comes inside, and witnesses Kurt sexually abusing Elizabeth. Shay tries to save her, and Elizabeth gets killed in the process, and Shay kills Kurt. (self-defense)
June is told of his innocence, and she accepts his heart for Claire. She witnesses his hanging, and when Shay was asked for his last words, ther were directed for June: "I forgive you," he said.
He was hanged and his heart was transplanted in Claire, and she survives.
Shay's wish was that Micheal has all his belongings. Micheal recieved a box, and ironcally, he finds several packs of Bazooka gums and a piece of paper with Bible quotes on it.
Grace, Shay's sister, was coming over to June's to visit her and Claire. Claire was getting dressed up, and ahe notices that the dog, Dudley, isn't moving. There was no heart beat either. She screamed and tries to wake up the dog, and under her 2 hands, its heart starts beating again.

Shelfari edited the description of Change of Heart: A Novel Friday, July 31 2009.

    • The acclaimed #1 New York Times bestselling author presents a spellbinding tale of a mother's tragic loss and one man's last chance at gaining salvation. Can we save ourselves, or do we rely on others to do it? Is what we believe always the truth? One moment June Nealon was happily looking forward to years full of laughter and adventure with her family, and the next, she was staring into a future that was as empty as her heart. Now her life is a waiting game. Waiting for time to heal her wounds, waiting for justice. In short, waiting for a miracle to happen. For Shay Bourne, life holds no more surprises. The world has given him nothing, and he has nothing to offer the world. In a heartbeat, though, something happens that changes everything for him. Now, he has one last chance for salvation, and it lies with June's eleven-year-old daughter, Claire. But between Shay and Claire stretches an ocean of bitter regrets, past crimes, and the rage of a mother who has lost her child. Would you give up your vengeance against someone you hate if it meant saving someone you love? Would you want your dreams to come true if it meant granting your enemy's dying wish? Once again, Jodi Picoult mesmerizes and enthralls readers with this story of redemption, justice, and love.
