“I have read the first three books in the Nightwalker series and have grown to love the Demons who have so far been the focus in Jacquelyn Frank’s supernatural world. While I am eager to read more about their lives, it was definitely a welcome change to have a vampire take center stage. And it’s not just any vampire, but the Prince himself.
With the recent discovery of an ancient library, the Demon and Lycanthrope leaders deemed it necessary for each Nightwalker race to have a representative of their own. After being approached by the Demon King, Damien travels to the library located at the Lycanthrope region accompanied by his selected representative, Jasmine. There he meets Syreena, the Lycanthrope princess who has captivated him during their initial meeting recently. When Syreena is taken by a renegade Demon and left brutally wounded, Damien ends up saving her. As they say, all hell breaks loose in more ways than one. Not only are they now both targeted by the crazed Demon, but they are also breaking every Vampire taboo by being together.
I found that DAMIEN was more character-driven compared with the first three books. While there were a couple of interesting battles, they were not of the same scale as seen in the previous books. Frank has really spent time developing Syreena and Damien’s characters, along with some newly-introduced secondary characters. The author ups the ante with the introduction of the Shadowdwellers and two new Mistrals. I was quite excited reading about the Nightwalker meeting. It was something I truly relished and I am eager to learn more about them.
I liked how Frank really served up the romance in this book and the chemistry between the central characters really sizzled. Admittedly, I was a little disappointed with the ending. It didn’t wow me like the other books did. I understand that the author was probably setting up the stage for Jasmine’s own story, but I felt that it took the limelight away from Damien and Syreena. Yet this complaint aside, DAMIEN was a pretty enjoyable read and I’m now about to start on Noah’s story.”
“This is the 4th book in The Nightwalkers series. A fun read full of love, sex and action. I like the way the author takes these legends on creatures of the night and molds and shapes them in a way that almost makes you believe they may really exist. In other words - she humanizes them.”Melissa wrote this review Thursday, December 18, 2008. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Fourth in the Nightwalkers Series, Frank’s series becomes stronger as her plot and characters develop. A Vampire prince and a lycanthrope princess discover each other as the war between the Nightwalkers and their war with their demon witch foe heats up. Learning more from the combined library helps the prince and princess to accommodate the changes in themselves and brings more Nightwalkers together as allies. Romance, paranormal activity and action make this book a great read!”Karen K (K2) wrote this review Thursday, October 9, 2008. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Book number four of Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalkers series.
This one is focused on Damien the vampire Prince and Syreena the Lycanthrope Princess. They meet up at the newly found Nightwalker library. Immediately Damien insults or makes some comment towards Syreena that she decides she needs a moment outside of the library to refocus. She is attacked by the rogue demon Ruth. Ruth is still out to get revenge for her daughers death.
Damien immediately regrets the comment he has made and decides to follow Syreena out of the library leaving his second in command, Jasmine, behind without word of where he was headed. Once Damien figures out that Syreena was attacked and taken he starts tracking her to where she's being held captive by the demon Ruth. Syreena has been nearly killed by Ruth, with large pieces of her hair missing, which to a lycantrope is the equivilant of a missing limb is deadly.
Damien swoops, or rather crashes, in to save Syreena from anymore harm. He takes her closer to the mystrail lands where he lays Syreena down. He makes the ultimate decision to feed from Syreena because she is just bleeding too much and his second bite contains a substance that coagulates, or stops, blood lose. It works but as he suspects her blood acts like a posion to him. He ends up unconscious. They are found by the mystrail Windsong.
They are cared for by Windsong. And they bond after a few heartfelt conversations. She kisses him to say thank you because that's what Princesses do in the fairy tales....awww! Just too sweet! That's just the beginning of their very sweet and romantic relationship. They have a lot to over come but they do it with such finesse and easy it left me envious!
A perfect couple, completely.
I was sooo thrilled with this addition to this series that I immediately started the next book of the series. I was holding off on this one until I knew I could read the next one, which is the story of Noah, the demon King. (Which is so far just as amazing!!!)
“Damien, the Prince of all vampires, rules his people with an iron fist. He wants the best for his people, even if this means that he has to put his own needs to the backgrounds. Vampires are known to be cold and ruthless, so Damien accepts that he will never find a mate. During the last battle against Demon traitor Ruth, they discovered a library full of books with the histories of the Nightwalkers. Now all Nightwalkers, Lycanthropes, Demons, Shadowdwellers and vampires are working together to research these books. By working together instead of fighting, they hope the bond between the races can grow even stronger. Damien decides to go to the library just because he is curious to see what they will discover.
Syreena, the Lycanthrope princess and the sister of Sienna has many gifts and can shift into different forms. Sienna asks her to be guard of the library and of course she can refuse her sister and agrees, not knowing she would meet the arrogant vampire prince Damien again. But when Syreena is attacked and captured by traitor Ruth, it is Damien who comes after her and rescues her.
Damien and Syreena both know they are not meant for each other, but cannot ignore the strong attraction between them. For the first time in his long life Damien experience how it feels to love someone, but not anyone… his mate. But there are some people who will make sure their relationship will fail.
Damien by Jacquelyn Frank is the fourth novel in The Nightwalkers series and I don’t have to say out loud, that it is another great novel in this series. I just love the way Jacquelyn Frank mingles the different species together with the danger and the romance.
The main-characters Damien and Syreena already meet each other briefly in Elijah’s book and from that moment Damien believes Syreena is special. Because vampires don’t mate for life, Damien stays away from Syreena and goes on with his life. Nevertheless Destiny has other plans for them and let them fall in love with each other, even though not everyone is happy about that and will try to destroy their relationship.
I really love the returning secondary characters from the previous novels. Sienna, Syreena’s sister and Queen of the Lycanthrope and her husband Elijah. Noah, King of the Demons and a good friend of Damien. Of course we find some new characters, Tristan, leader of the Shadowdwellers and his sister. Female vampire Jasmine, who is the right-hand and close friend of Damien. She’s been in Damien’s life for five hundred years and knows him really good. She is not happy to see him with Syreena, but cannot ignore the fact that Syreena makes him happy.
And the traitor Ruth is still plotting her attack on all The Nightwalkers and she will do anything to hurt them.
I honestly can say I’m a huge fan of Jacquelyn Frank and her Nightwalkers. When I read one of her books, it pulls me right in and I find myself trapped in a world full of danger, betrayal, gorgeous alpha males and romance.
I cannot wait till Noah’s story comes out and see what she has in store for him.”
“Moved a bit slow at the beginning, but I'm glad I finished it. If I hadn't I wouldn't have gotten the added information in the overlying story arc that will be useful in other books. Definitely looking forward to Noah and wondering about Jasmine's future story too.”Tami H wrote this review Sunday, July 13, 2008. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Another excellent book in the series!
Oh, how I am loving this series! The action, in or out of the bedroom, is incredible! You see the scenes as Frank wrote them, and they stick with you, long after the book is finished, LOL!
Damien is the perfect hero. Strong, he refuses to believe he’s sulking when he actually is and turns it into anger and a temper tantrum instead.
Syreena is stronger, physically and mentally, than most believed her to be. I loved how she grew even more, and how she came around to Damien’s way of thinking, all on her own. It was high time she made decisions for herself. She learned how, the hard way.
The one scene between Damien and Syreena kept me glued, word for word, paragraph for paragraph, page for page. I love that scene - the violence of it, the erotic sensuality of it. Terrific!
Meanwhile, the enemy is getting stronger and bolder, and I can’t wait until she’s brought down. Ruth may be really intelligent and savvy, but her way of thinking is screwed, and she is one enemy that will have to be defeated - there is no other alternative.
Jasmine, even if she is Damien’s ‘right-hand-man’, angered me to no end. I think Syreena and she need a good round between the two of them. But then, it’s to be expected. I think anyone would have reacted the same way as Jasmine, especially after having been with Damien for over 5 hundred years. While Syreena still feels jealousy when Damien and Jasmine are together, she doesn’t mull over it. Whereas Jasmine is completely opposite in that way of thinking. Meanwhile, Syreena and Jasmine are more alike than they realize, I think.
I can’t wait for Noah’s book, which is supposed to be out in September ‘08! Two months won’t have gone by fast enough!”
“Damien the Vampire prince rescues Syreena Princess of the Lycanthrope from the evil Demon Ruth. Syreena is very ill from lose of blood and loosing blood fast as Damien carries her as fast as he can to safety. Once he has her safely at the mistrals home so he can rest and Windsong can look after Syreena.
Damien finds himself drawn to Syreena. He finds her irresistible. Syreena has never wanted a man but she finds the Prince erotic and powerful, these traits make her feel an immediate connection. She wants him as her mate.
A very good book. Another good one to add to the series....”
